What do Virginia Woolf, Ada Lovelace, Alan Turing, Maya Angelou, and Prince have in common? They were all inspired—and inspiring—muses whose stories continue to shape the creative world today. In Conversations with Marvellous Muses, Andrew Leigh takes readers on an imaginative and intellectually rich journey through history, reimagining vivid, heartfelt dialogues with 20 remarkable figures who challenged conventions, transformed their disciplines, and ignited brilliance in others. These conversations—part memoir, part historical fiction—are grounded in extensive research and offer readers a fresh, intimate perspective on both celebrated and overlooked individuals across science, art, literature, and social change. From Émilie du Châtelet’s trailblazing physics to Jane Morris’s transformation from working-class girl to Pre-Raphaelite icon, each vignette reveals a muse not as a passive inspiration but as a bold co-creator, a visionary, a catalyst for revolution. Whether it's on a 1913 Parisian stage, in a dusty 1800s library, or amidst jazz and justice in 20th-century Harlem, this compelling anthology invites us to rethink the Muse—not as a supporting role, but as the beating heart of cultural progress.
About the Author
Andrew Leigh
Andrew is the author of over twenty books on management. Many have been translated worldwide. For example, his Charisma book is now available in over 17 languages. His long-running Essentials of Management was shortlisted for the Chartered Institute of Management's Book of the Year award. He co-founded Maynard Leigh Associates, now a leading UK training and development company, in its third decade. Since ceasing to be a Director, he has been developing a series of imaginary conversations with famous historical figures. He is bringing this series to MVP (Minimum Viable Product) standards to appeal to publishers who recognise the potential of this unusual approach. In particular, his first two books, Conversations With Remarkable Women and Conversations With Marvellous Muses, will appeal to all those interested in history and in the lesson Andrew draws from "meetings" them. A third book on Visionaries Who Shaped the Future is also under development.
